Welcome

Kamala Conspiracy Theories is the next in succession to Obama Conspiracy Theories and Biden Conspiracy Theories.

I’ll talk about whatever strikes me as weird in the 2024 presidential campaign, and perhaps in its aftermath (which I hope will be normal and not weird).

I’m a life-long Democrat and I also value truth and fairness. I promise truth, the best I can ascertain it, and I promise not to cheat. But I do not intend to negotiate against myself.

What have we done?

All Trump’s lies about massive votes from “illegal immigrants” were exposed. Republicans, it appears, have taken the House and the Senate. They already have the Supreme Court, and will likely lock that down for decades.

Trump will order all the criminal charges against him dismissed and punishment for his conviction in New York will be postponed.

The Trump-endorsed Project 2025 will likely go full swing.

My high school Civics teacher described politics as a pendulum that swings one way and back the other. I hope it doesn’t swing so far that it breaks.

Vote for the Rule of Law in 2024

Made in the USA (Not)

The Associated Press reports the results of an in-depth investigation of the Trump-endorsed “God Bless the USA Bible.” Surprise! It’s printed in China.1 I wonder if the $3 Bibles will be exempt from Trump’s tariffs. Given that they sell for $60, a 50% tariff might actually be absorbed by the seller.

More offensive to me personally is the new edition of the Bible embossed, “The Day God Intervened.”

  1. Trump has long blasted China’s trade practices. His ‘God Bless the USA’ Bibles were printed there ↩︎

Trump Calls for Police Brutality

Trump made some shocking remarks, shocking to any American who believes in the Constitution and the rule of law.

Trump was talking about shoplifting and engaging in one of his riffs of lies, this time about shoplifters walking out of stores with refrigerators strapped to their backs, and police being threatened with the loss of their jobs if they interfered. (I don’t know if the shoplifters were supposed to be eating cats at the same time.) It was really nut-ball stuff.

Trump said that the shoplifting problem would be solved if the police were allowed to get “really violent” for a day and “one rough hour — and I mean real rough.”

Politico phrased it this way:

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday called for “one real rough, nasty” and “violent day” of police retaliation in order to eradicate crime “immediately.”1

By way of explanation:

The remarks — delivered by Trump at a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, just 36 days before the election — did not amount to a new policy proposal, according to a Trump campaign official.

Quiz question for extra points: Which constitutional guarantees does this violate?

Of course such things would not be a problem for Trump as he has Secret Service protection. I wonder if he is trying to cause national violence over widespread police brutality so he can show how great he is by bringing in the Army to kill people.

Are You Better Off Today than 4 Years Ago?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t really have a solid impression of how I felt about things 4 years ago, but I do know how Americans in general felt, thanks to a Pew Research Center’s American Trends Panel survey of 4,708 U.S. adults in June 2020.

Only 17% said they felt proud of the state of the country. 87% said they were dissatisfied with the way things were going. 11% said Donald Trump was a “Poor” president and 42% called him “Terrible.”

67% of Biden voters said that their vote would be primarily against Trump.

How soon we forget.

Donald Trump Supports Project 2025

In a speech before the Heritage Foundation in 2022, Trump praised their Project 2025, saying:

Our country is going to hell. The critical job of institutions such as Heritage is to lay the groundwork and Heritage does such an incredible job at that this is a great group and they’re gonna lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do and what your movement will do when the American people will give us a colossal mandate to save America. And that’s coming, that’s coming.

Here’s the video of Trump’s statement.

Size Matters

Not really.

Here’s a photo from Harris’ airport rally near Detroit that rattled Trump so badly.

He lied, claiming it was AI (and this is just the ones outside the hanger where the rally was held). There were many independent records plus video.

You might not know this, but when Donald Trump came down the escalator at Trump Tower to announce his candidacy for president, the cheering crowd were all actors hired for the event.1 But Trump said of Harris in the debate:

And the people that do go, she’s busing them in and paying them to be there.

Where did someone running for the Commander in Chief of the United States get that crazy idea? It was a fake Craig’s List image on Facebook, according to an ABC News fact check.2

Trump certainly outdrew Biden in 2020 at rallies, but Biden beat Trump in the election by more than 7 million votes, and hundreds of Trump’s supporters that attended those rallies contracted COVID and died as a result, like Herman Cain:

One study found over 700 COVID deaths linked to Trump rallies.3

Your Fired!

One of the highpoints of the first Harris-Trump debate was a great line from Harris:

Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people.

Trump talked about firing too. After Harris recited a litany of former Trump officials who do not support his reelection, including many who now support Harris, Trump responded by saying:

Because when I hear that — see, I’m a different kind of a person. I fired most of those people. Not so graciously. They did bad things or a bad job. I fired them. They never fired one person. They didn’t fire anybody having to do with Afghanistan and the Taliban and the 13 people whose, whose, were just killed viciously and violently killed and I got to know the parents and the family. They should have fired all those generals, all those top people because that was one of the most incompetently handled situations anybody has ever seen. So when somebody does a bad job I fire them.

I was the vice president of a software development company for 30 years. It was my job to hire and fire people. In that 30 years, I fired one person. I consider that firing a personal failure on my part because I had hired someone who couldn’t do the job. All the rest were successes.

I think that someone who fires lots of people is a lousy manager, because he can’t pick good employees, or he is too lazy to do the work to evaluate them.

So what happens when the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, or the Secretary of Defense is a real screw-up and people die? It means that the president is responsible for negligence in picking them.
